Virtual Lectures FAQ

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about live events, as well as solutions to commonly reported Webex issues.

Please Note:  Our Virtual Lectures are offered via Facebook Livestream on Our Page as an alternative to Webex Events.

If you are experiencing serious difficulties accessing Webex during one of our live events, we recommend connecting via Facebook

Do I have to download the Webex application to attend your lectures?

No, it is not necessary to download the app, you can join through your web browser as an alternative.  We recommend that you do download the application for the best experience, however, it is not required.
You can also attend our live virtual lectures via Facebook Livestream directly on our Facebook page, as an alternative to Webex.  Other users have reported this to be a satisfactory, and sometimes preferred, way to attend our live events.

I'm having trouble connecting to Webex or it's taking a long time to connect.

This issue has been reported during events with high attendance, and we are still trying to find a solution. If this happens to you, please give it a minute or two and try connecting again. Many who have reported this problem have connected successfully upon multiple attempts.
If you would like to try connecting early, the host opens our Virtual Lectures at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, to ensure attendees and panelists have extra time to connect.
As an alternative, our lectures also livestream directly on our Facebook page where you can also comment and ask questions live.

Why do I only see and hear the panelists? Why can't I see the video of other attendees?

Webex Events is essentially a webinar platform where you will only be able to see the video and hear the audio of those who are designated panelists.  You can view the full listing of attendees, but you will not be able to see them or hear them.
However, you can communicate with the presenter, panelists, or other attendees via the Chat function in Webex.  If this window is not automatically showing in your Webex screen, you can go to the menu at the top of the Webex window, click File and choose Open Chat.

I can't hear the speaker or my speakers aren't working in Webex. What can I do?

Make sure your audio settings are pointing toward the correct speakers or audio output device.  To find these settings:
  1. Click on the arrow on the right side of the |Mute| button.  This will show you the available settings for your speakers and microphone.  You should see something similar to the figure below:
  2. Underneath the list for Speaker, you will see your available audio output options.  Choose Use System Settings to use the speakers that your computer normally uses on a day-to-day basis.
  3. You should now be able to hear the lecture audio.

Something came up and I can't attend. Are the lectures recorded?

Yes, we record all of our Virtual Lectures and they are available on our YouTube Channel, website, and on Facebook.  If you cannot attend the live lecture, you will be able to view the presentation at your own convenience on your platform of choice.

If you are having an issue that is not covered here, please email April Brown at tac.connect@gmail.com.  If you are emailing during a live event, we will do our best to get back to you ASAP.
