UTAH – The Smith Family Archaeological Preserve, located on the western shore of Utah Lake south of Saratoga Springs, will be offering public tours this fall beginning September 7. Preserve volunteers will conduct fall tours every Saturday from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. through October 25.
The Smith Preserve contains over 240 Native American Rock art panels as well as other cultural resources that span three time periods going back at least 5,000 years. Tours of the preserve will be accomplished by preserve volunteers using the preserve’s trail system. The trail system can be traversed by any person in moderate physical shape. Unfortunately, the preserve’s trail system is not handicapped accessible. These guided tours will include some of the preserve’s most impressive and significant petroglyph panels.
Tours will be limited to a total of 20 people, so registration is encouraged early. Visit their Facebook site to reserve your space today! Otherwise, tour participation will be on a first come, first serve basis. The public is not allowed access to the preserve, for security and preservation reasons, unless they are participating in a planned event at the preserve, including a tour, under the direction of preserve volunteers.
