Please join The Archaeological Conservancy and the West Virginia Land Trust (WVLT) for a unique all-day virtual event on October 23! Eastern Regional Director Kelley Berliner and Jessica Spatafore of the West Virginia Land Trust will take you on an adventure to Arbuckle’s Fort archaeological site and the surrounding area. Throughout the day, they will interview various archaeologists, descendants, and locals who will bring the rich history of this significant West Virginia frontier fort to life!  Watch below or follow along on our Facebook page

Arbuckle’s Fort, constructed in 1774 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, is part of series of fortified sites in the area. Early Euro-American settlers built these forts as a system of defense against raids by Native Americans, which occurred as these settlers and Native Americans clashed over contested lands. Arbuckle’s Fort is a frontier site with high archaeological integrity and a rich artifact assemblage that offers tremendous potential for research and public interpretation.

Help us #HoldTheFort and learn about this extraordinary site as we race to acquire and preserve it for posterity! For more information and to donate to this important project, please visit our crowdfunding page.  Thank you to everyone who has already donated!
